Notes: This has been such a popular and successful costume for my mom. Two awards in one weekend, and a veritable fan club too! Both awards were so unexpected, but that made them all the more rewarding! The outfit was very simple to construct, and then mom did the embellishing on it. We used a double knit as the darker underneath layer, and then a widely woven linen fabric for the outer layer. We did not finish any of the edges in order to maintain a more ragged and worn look. The embellishments were done with a very natural looking yarn, and some fake leaves and twigs woven in to the outer layer of fabric. The pouches were made from a dark brown burlap. This way, she did not have to bring a purse around at the con, she could keep her stuff in the pouches. The hat was built upon a straw hat. It was decorated in a similar way as the robes and the whole decorated part could be just lifted off of the initial straw hat, since it was a nice gardening hat, and we did not want to ruin it. The costume was based on Professor Sprout in the movie, and the description in the book, and then we created our own design. This is mostly because obtaining reference images from the movie was near impossible. *note* She is only wearing the wig in the last picture which was from AB '05. It was too hot to wear the wig when we did the other photoshoot :P
