Date Completed: August 2003
First Worn at: Big Apple Anime Fest '03
Time Spent: 20+ hours
Materials Cost: approx. $100
Notes: Yubaba was the first costume that we made for my mom. It was lots of fun to have her cosplaying with us! This costume actually posed many more problems than we had originally thought it would, and in many ways I was disappointed in it, that is until it got such a good reaction at the Con, and with people online, and well Mom still loved it. All the pieces of this costume are detachable. the bodice and sleeves are a leotard, the puffy sleeves were then attached over that. The skirt was a dirndl gathered with elastic and had a ruffle on the bottom, with yards upon yards of tulle underneath. The belt and big bow velcroed in the back, and the collar was detachable as well. The jewel on the front was made from a craft mirror and painted. For this photo shoot and at BAAF she had the hilarious prosthetic nose, to make her look more Yubaba-esqe, but it was just too much of a pain to wear all the time. She wore this to Big Apple Anime Fest in '03 and then when she judged the Masq. at Genericon '05.
