-of Final Fantasy X-2- {Back To Cosplay Gallery} Date Completed: April '04 First Worn at: Anime Boston 2004 4/9 - 4/11 Time Spent: 40+ hours Materials Cost: approx. $150 Awards: Design Award: Craftsmanship @ Anime Boston '04 Notes: Talk about scandal! This costume took a lot of courage to wear! It one of my biggest costume challenges ever because of the difficulty of the dress design. To make this costume wearable and decent I spent a lot of time fixing patterns, and making mock ups for the dress, and then adding darts and other alterations to make it fit as well as it did when it was finished. I used stretch lycra swimsuit material for the magenta fabric, and a stretch double knit for the purple. All of the gradient dye was done using Setacolor Fabric Paints. It was painted onto the fabric, faded by diluting with water, and then heat set using an iron. All the black binding was done with quilting bias tape binding. The symbols (sphere break numbers) on the skirt were stenciled on and I just used acrylic paints for that. I mixed white acrylic with a little bronze, and then highlighted each symbol with bronze paint. The coins were made from sculpy and 1 1/2" diameter metal circles. I covered the metal in gold sculpy, leaving a small whole at the top to sew them on to the dress, and then painted over the gold sculpy with Gold Liquid Leaf paint. The necklace coins were attached to a clear vinyl piece which hung from the purple neck thing. The purple neck thing was horrid, it was the one piece of the costume that I thought was just totally ugly, but I made it anyway. It was just 1" diameter piping filler cord covered in the same stretch knit as the purple on the dress, and the sleeve things I basically guessed on, drew up a random pattern, and it ended up working. My sister made my headband, I painted my shoes with acrylic paint, my cards were made with foam core by me and my sister, and lets see... I have a tutorial for making the Hair tail in the Tutorials section. Much thanks go to Hailo and my sister, EverRose for helping me with this costume.
