Date Completed: July '04
First Worn at: Otakon '04
Time Spent: 20 hours
Materials Cost: approx. $90
Notes: This costume was a last minute effort in the weeks before Otakon 2004. I had originally planned to wear my Umi costume to Otakon, but with being away at FIT during most of July, I knew that I was not going to get Umi finished in time to debut. So I began to search for an easier costume that I could do to debut at Otakon. Hailo was the one who suggested I make this costume. It was made entirely in about 2 days of sewing, and an evening of beading. I had used left over fabric from other projects, and used foamies to make the breastplate. I used gold liquid leaf to paint the breastplate. The jewels on the breastplate were these cute litte See Through Stones, which I bought at JoAnn’s. I used a complex gold braid trim that my mom had stashed in our attic for the empire waist trim, and when I sewed it on, I added extra gold beading as well. I made wings that draped and would hang from each other with thread connecting all 3 wings on each side, and a little elastic loop that went around my finger. My dress took nearly 4 yards of fabric because I made it as a circle skirt to get the fullness I wanted. This is definatly one of the easiest costumes I have ever made, and in the end was very beautiful and fun and easy to wear. I really love this costume all around. I definatly will be bringing this costume to many more conventions.
